Hire Android developers

We will be straight about the shape of this practice: it is depth rather than breadth. The bulk of our Kotlin work is one agritech product where three engineers logged 11,653 hours across four and a half years, plus Android work on a consumer fintech app. If you want a vendor claiming dozens of Android launches, that is not us. If you want people who have carried one app through four years of OS releases and Play policy changes, that is exactly what this is.

Honestly: we do not have enough closed Android roles to quote a median, and inventing one would be worse than saying so. Two hires is not a sample. Plan on the same five to seven weeks our other stacks average when recruiting from the market, and faster if a Kotlin developer is free — we will give you a real date once we know which it is.

Effective, with one caveat specific to Android: device fragmentation means testing is a real cost line, not an afterthought. A distributed team needs an agreed device matrix and access to physical hardware or a device cloud, otherwise bugs surface only in production on the handsets your users own. Settle that before the engagement starts rather than after the first bad review.

The build is the smaller half. Play Store operations and the fragmentation problem are what make Android engagements differ from iOS ones.

• Google Play Console: releases, staged rollouts, and policy compliance.
• A device and API-level test matrix agreed up front, covering real hardware.
• Background work, permissions, and battery behaviour across OEM variations.
• Crash and ANR monitoring, which surfaces problems no emulator reproduces.

Kotlin when the app depends on platform behaviour, needs to handle OEM quirks gracefully, or is the main product surface. Cross-platform when you are shipping the same screens to both stores with a small team and the native surface is thin. The decision usually comes down to how much of your app is genuinely platform-specific — and that is worth mapping honestly before choosing, because retrofitting native modules later costs more than starting native.

One to three engineers. Our longest-running Android engagement has been three, which is a comfortable size for a product where Android is a first-class surface with its own release cadence. For an app that mirrors an existing iOS product, one experienced Kotlin developer alongside the iOS team is often the right shape.
